Myth 1: You should submit your URLs to search engines.
This may have helped once upon a time, but it’s been at least 5 or 6 years since that’s been necessary.
Myth 2: You need a Google Sitemap.
If your site was built correctly, i.e., it’s crawler-friendly, you certainly don’t need a Google Sitemap. It won’t hurt you to have one, and you may be interested in Google’s other Webmaster Central Tools, but having a Google Sitemap isn’t going to get you ranked better.
Myth 3: You need to update your site frequently.
Frequent updates to your pages may increase the search engine crawl rate, but it won’t increase your rankings. If your site doesn’t need to change, don’t change it just because you think the search engines will like it better. They won’t. In fact, some of the highest ranking sites in Google haven’t been touched in years.
Myth 4: PPC ads will help/hurt rankings.
This one is funny to me because about half the people who think that running Google AdWords will affect their organic rankings believe that they will bring them down; the other half believe they will bring them up. That alone should tell you that neither is true!
Myth 5: Your site will be banned if you ignore Google’s guidelines.
There’s nothing in Google’s webmaster guidelines that isn’t common sense. You can read them if you’d like, but it’s not mandatory in order to be an SEO. Just don’t do anything strictly for search engines that you wouldn’t do anyway, and you’ll be fine. That said, the Google guidelines are much better than they used to be, and may even provide you with a few good tidbits of advice.
Myth 6: Your site will be banned if you buy links.
This one does have some roots in reality, as Google (specifically Matt Cutts) likes to scare people about this. They rightly don’t want to count paid links as votes for a page if they can figure out that they are paid, but they often can’t. Even if they do figure it out, they simply won’t count them. It would be foolish of them to ban entire sites because they buy advertising on other sites.
Myth 7: H1 (or any header tags) must be used for high rankings.
There’s very little (if any) evidence to suggest that keywords in H tags actually affect rankings, yet this myth continues to proliferate. My own tests don’t seem to show them making a difference, although it’s difficult to know for sure. Use H tags if it works with your design or content management system, and don’t if it doesn’t. It’s doubtful you’ll find it makes a difference one way or the other.
Myth 8: Words in your meta keyword tag have to be used on the page.
I used to spread this silly myth myself many years ago. The truth is that the Meta keyword tag was actually designed to be used for keywords that were NOT already on the page, not the opposite! Since this tag is ignored by Google and used only for uncommon words in Yahoo, it makes little difference at this point anyway.
Myth 9: SEO copy must be 250 words in length.
This one is interesting to me because I am actually the one who made up the 250 number back in the late ’90s. However, I never said that 250 was the exact number of words you should use, nor did I say it was an optimal number. It’s simply a good amount to be able to write a nice page of marketing copy that can be optimized for 3-5 keyword phrases. Shorter copy ranks just as well, as does longer copy. Use as many or as few words as you need to use to say what you need to say.
Myth 10: You need to optimize for the long tail.
No, you don’t. By their very nature, long-tail keyword phrases are uncompetitive; meaning that not many pages are using those words, and not that many people are searching for them in the engines. Because of this, ranking for long-tail keywords is easy…simply include them somewhere in a blog post or an article, and you’ll rank for them. But that’s not optimization.
Before you go spreading these myths or any other SEO info that you believe is true, test it many times on many sites. Even if it appears to work, keep in mind that it may not always work, or that there could be other factors involved.

What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
Briefly put, SEO can be defined as all the techniques that are used to gain more notice and index for your site on all the important search engines like MSN, Yahoo or Google.
What is the importance of SEO?
The foremost way in which people locate websites is through search engines, so obtaining a higher ranking in your keywords (usually the first page or 1-10 in the engine) is an excellent way to pull traffic to your site. When you have a quality ranking, the investment is worth making, and it is a lot like “free” promotion 24/7/365.
What is the way of becoming SEO friendly?
I am not exaggerating when I say that the methods of SEO are literally countless. However, here let me share a few of the chief elements of making it to the top order.
Domain age – Search engines give a lot of preference to a seasoned site – a site that has been working for many years and has a beneficial output for the browsers.
Clean, relevant, new content – You need to ensure that the content of your site is always fresh and is regularly updated. Both the search engines and your visitors will like the novelty.
No Flash – It is a wonderful multimedia device but Flash is generally not favored for SEO, the text and content within the Flash piece cannot be identified by search engines, and hence it cannot be utilized into your SEO progress. A major fault is possessing a flash introduction, because a flash introduction page stands as an obstacle between the main page and the remaining content that lies inside your site.
Meta tags – Meta tags are nothing but invisible tags that are implemented by search engines to categorize your site content.
Heading tags – Heading tags (h1) should be put on the headline or most essential and relevant element of your page. These tags also need to be written on the keywords which you think users will be looking for that will lead to your site.
Site maps – Site maps is a link by link breakdown of your site. They assist search engine “spiders” maneuver through your site and index each separate page.
SEO :What you should avoid
Keyword Stuffing – Keyword stuffing is jam packing your content with your chief keywords to such an extent that your content holds no meaning at all.
Invisible content – This is something that you don’t intend your visitors to see but have used to keyword-stuff your page. It will quickly place you on the wrong side of a search engine.
Too many h1 tags
Link farms – Link farms are simply individual pages with plenty of links to other sites.
Going overboard with any of the “what not to do” can lead to your site being “sandboxed” which will set aside your site from the search engine completely. Being “sandboxed” may last years or months, or even forever.
How long will it take to have a good ranking?
SEO, as a practice, is very time-dependent. Even though you will implement only above-board SEO techniques, you should not hope to see results for at least a few months .
Your investment is bound to pay off
Although the correct ROI of your SEO services is literally incalculable because of its longish timeframe, the unanimous opinion of experts is that SEO is the most money saving marketing tool if practiced in the right manner.

A good looking website is not enough to give your online business a boost. Instead a website that attracts potential customers is what all online firms are looking for. The competition is fierce and every website wants to earn high search engine rankings and maximize website traffic. Making it SEO-friendly is the only way to attain high-rankings. Undeniably, the selection of the right Search Engine Optimization company can be a strenuous task looking at the numerous SEO companies all claiming to help you achieve business goals. Here are a few guidelines and tips to help you select the right SEO company:
Get a thorough knowledge about Search Engine Optimization Before you find out about the SEO company, do your own SEO research and get a basic understanding about the SEO process. SEO is not rocket science and you can easily understand how it should be done by reading loads of informative websites. This knowledge will help you find and hire a good SEO company and spot the ones that are fake and use blackhat methods. By gaining SEO knowledge, you can also help the SEO company you hire in making decisions regarding SEO implementation.
Get Price Quotes & Find out how good the SEO Company is Get price quotes from multiple SEO companies, and select the best among those. But do remember, high price quotes does not make an SEO Company the best. Go for a company that offers realistic prices. Check the websites of the SEO firms to find out how good they are at their job. Do see the Google PageRank — a good SEO Company’s website must have not less than PR 5. Check out their web design, content, navigation structure, sitemap, etc. Check out if the content is well written and has relevant keywords and hyper linking. The navigation structure must be neat and web design must be well-laid out and striking.
Check if the SEO Company promises you No.1 ranking in various search engines It is next to impossible to attain No. 1 ranking, so if an SEO company guarantees you no.1 ranking, then you should perhaps look for another company that is honest in its marketing approach. According to Google SEO selection tips, no one can guarantee no.1 ranking in a search engine like Google.
